So, you’ve been tasked with creating an incredible look and feel for your church stage backdrops. What should you do? Where do you start? What do you need and how quickly can you get it? These can be really daunting questions, but we are here to help!!!
Creating a stage design can be an intensive undertaking, especially if you have never created a church stage design. However, with a little bit of knowledge it can be much easier!
The best place to start on your stage design is to start with the goal in mind. Ask yourself these questions and try to be as descriptive as possible.:
What do you want your stage design to look like?
Do you want a clean minimalist stage, a vibrant and colorful stage, a stage with a video screen worked in, or maybe a specific looking stage to match a series? Use descriptive words to make sure you fully capture your vision.
What feel do you want to create?
Do you want your stage to feel warm, intimate, polished, inviting, exciting, professional, or energetic? Describe the feeling you want your congregation to experience in your church, and use this as a starting point.
What message are we trying to convey?
Is there a specific message we are trying to teach as a church? Is there any specific way we can use our church stage backdrop to help convey that?
Is there a specific look that you want to stay away from?
Sometimes knowing what you don’t want can help you determine what you do want much easier.
Once you’ve answered these questions you should have a bit better vision for what you do or don’t want. This may not be 100% clear, but as you continue it will get clearer and clearer. There will be other things to consider but it’s very important to focus on the ideal first, then you can work backwards to tweak the perfect church stage design to fit your budget, space limitations, usability, and timeline.
Now that we know some of what we want from a feel, let’s dive into how we can create it. A great church stage backdrop will have a few key elements.
Contrast is the most important element for a stage design. Contrast creates a separation between the backdrop and the worship team onstage. It gives visual interest and helps to maximize your lighting budget. A stage with good natural contrast typically takes less lighting than one that lacks contrast. This contrast can be created by differences in color. A good example would be stage backdrop pieces that are painted in different colors or a white Mod Scenes design panel on top of a black drape.
Symmetry is very important in your stage design. Creating a stage design that is symmetrical will not only help the build process go easier, it is more pleasing to the eye. The human brain assumes items of symmetry are of higher quality, higher value, and higher interest. We can use this to our advantage to create when designing and building our church stage backdrop.
Space and Separation is another important element of a good stage design. Most people want their stage design feel to continue out into their room, however typically this is not feasible because of time, space, or cost. However using space and separation you can create the feel of the stage design throughout the room while only using the stage. A great example of this is to have a dense backdrop with little spacing near the middle of the stage and as you move towards the edges increase the space and reduce the stage backdrop elements. This will create a look that feels like it continues all the way into the room.
Depth is another important element that can help you to create a great church stage backdrop. Depth is seen as the distance of separation of elements in a stage design. Many people use flat 2d backdrop elements, however since we live in a 3d world, using 3d elements makes your stage look more tangible. Depth is the secret sauce to creating a next level stage design.
Light is probably the most important element. Without light, the stage cannot be seen. With good lighting you can create multiple looks, scenes, and feelings with a single set. A good lighting setup will take advantage of all of the other elements and help them to be even more impactful. Don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of light, even a few lights can have a great impact if used well.
Limitations are something we all do have to keep in mind for our Church Stage Designs. These can help shape our design and decisions once we’ve established a design that creates our feel with the elements above.
Space limitations can have an effect on how your stage design is created. Many times church stage backdrops do not have the space to create depth. On may occasions the band is too close to the back wall to give enough space to allow for a dimensional backdrop. In these cases, the other elements become more important and forgoing the depth element is the best method.
Useability is another limitation to consider. Many do it yourself options don’t lend well to being reused. Many that do, are impractical to store. Options such as Mod Scenes, or fabric backdrops lend well to reuse and repurposing in the future. These items also store easily making it practical to store them for future use.
Budget is often a limiting factor as well. With a little bit of creativity this hurdle can be overcome. Often a stage design can be started and continually added to over a course of time. This method reduces the immediate cost and even creates a nice evolution of design. Spacing out elements can also create a great contrast and reduce the overall cost.

And although we serve those large shirts as well, a lot of people assume that there’s a huge cost to what we do and it’s actually quite the opposite. Church Stage Backdrops Our products are really reasonable. Cost and they’re really made a not so much for a large churches, but for small churches, churches that are 100 to 500 attendance that have don’t really have any staff on.

A lot of times were competing with were competing with ambient light, so, whether that be from fluorescent lights, that can’t be turned off or dim or large windows on the side of the room or stateline. We can help to to get film to put on your windows to help reduce the ambient light, without changing the color of said why you would put over your window. So it’s a very easy to put on and it’s and put on correctly. This is not even noticeable is there. We have colored product, we can do either full color printing or we can do some material that are colored and we can cut products out of that, enable you to be able to build the color into your set and also we help them to connect you with the right people for your stage lighting to be able to dim your stage lights, you need to say to lighting setup in a way that makes it easier for using a backdrop. You don’t have to you know, make any changes to your physical building in another way. That’s genius and the cost is pretty much non-existent, is too attached physically attached to the wall, so many people know my goodness. That’s what we use white flathead thumbtacks. To hang your stage backdrop, so you take those those thumb tacks and you push them into the center of the the hole for the panel. What do you look at your birthday now and push them into the center of the whole push down side so they hold your pee outside place, and then you lay out there. You’re just want me home from there using push pins to put everything in it and what that what happens whenever you do, that is there’s a small and it’s a small hole. You know a 16 third or less. It probably was, and once you’re done, there’s that’s okay to take on your side yard. We don’t want to use a different site. You can easily push push pins right back into the same old or, if you’re, going back to just the standard wall, you can easily take just a single coat of paint will cover and fill all those holes without any other helpful hint. As I mentioned with a pipe and drape, we saw that and you can easily hang any set from pipe and drape. Lastly, we’ve also helped a lot of churches create modular towers, Church Stage Backdrops so they can move it from room to room.
You have a lot of flexibility with where you place in editing. 0 I take zero effort to to set it off. It’s not going to change, or maybe a little bit exaggerated, but it takes very little effort to set it up. Church Stage Backdrops You don’t have to change anything within your sanctuary, your room, you simply set it up and put it in place and if you ever have to move it off stage for wedding or whatever you can literally pick up the entire tower, completely bill walking into another room with no issues.
